NO. 5 OF A SERIES OF 5 :: PUTTING DOWN ROOTS

Some of the trees had obviously suffered the effects of some rough weather. Their trunks were well off vertical, and in some cases they were leaning so far over that their roots were exposed. There's something sad, embarrassing, almost voyeuristic about seeing a tree's roots exposed like this, and something confusing too — it's almost as if the tree is putting out fingers in an attempt to grip the ground rather than the reality of being pulled away from the environment it's been used to for so many years.
